Being
a medium myself, I have had quite a few scary moments. One of the the
first ones was when I was fifteen and not really fully aware of my
mediumship potential. My family and I lived in an old fourteenth
century house that had up until 1901 been a pub. Footsteps were heard
frequently in the house, but the scariest moment happened to me one
evening. It was autumn and hence the nights were drawing in. The
upstairs was laid out thus, there were 14 steps up the main staircase
to the first landing were my bedroom was three more steps up and around
the corner took you to the hallway. The bathroom was first and the
toilet was separate at the end of the hallway and the furthest point of
the house, next to my eldest sister’s bedroom. The floorboards in the
hallway creaked loudly the entire length and not even the cat could
walk down here without making a noise all the way!!
It
was getting dark and in hindsight and in fact after this incident I
did, but I should have turned the light on. Instead I walked down the
hall to the toilet with no lights on, closed the toilet door to do my
business. The rest of my family was downstairs watching TV. Suddenly
the old latch on the door lifted with a loud clank and the door began
to open. I threw myself against the door, closing it, turned on the
light and after a few minutes decided I had to just go. I ran the
entire length of the hallway, jumped down the first few steps and
without a break leapt down the entire flight of 14 steps to the stone
floor and burst in on my very startled family, looking apparently white
as a sheet and like “I had seen a ghost.” I knew no one had been
upstairs, as I would have heard them, but I had to ask the rhetorical
question. “Who just tried to walk in on me in the toilet?” Of course
no one had, at least anyone from this realm. The other thing I learned
from that experience, aside from turning on the light, was to lock the
door behind myself!!

Footsteps in the dark.
Working
as I do as a medium for the company Fright Nights, my wife Tori and I
had the privilege of taking part in a vigil at Canterbury Tales in
Canterbury Kent on 1st November 2008. If you don’t know it, Canterbury
Tales is set in an old church. This building has a lot of history, as
does the whole area, there are some very creepy waxworks littered in
and around the building that displayed what life was like in the area
in the medieval period. I had just completed a vigil with a group,
where we had had quite a bit of activity, including some unexplained
light phenomena.
The
host Andy had just taken my group down to the reception for a tea break
and then he went back up to get another group. I decided a few minutes
after to follow him up and wait near the door so I could get it open
when he returned with the group. I stood alone in the dark, and I mean
pitch black. I cleverly left my torch back in reception. As I waited
I decided in my infinite wisdom to go and find Andy and the others.
Good idea in theory, but not in practice. In the total blackness I had
to feel my way, using my feet and hands. (feet, as there are steps here
and there) I got quite a good distance from the door to the point I
could no longer see the light around the door frame. I felt someone
walk past me, the breeze of them any how, then I heard very audibly
footsteps walking toward me, but there was no torch light. I must
admit my fear got the better of me and had I been able to see, I know I
would have run back to the door, but as it was pitch dark I had to go
slowly feeling my way back, with the loud sound of footsteps behind me
all the way. Finally I saw the light around the doorframe and made a
quicker beeline for it. When I got back to the reception area, Andy
was already there with the other group, he knew an alternative way
back!!! Yes, I am ashamed to say, even mediums get scared at times
too!!!
